What is fluoride?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in water in varying amounts, depending on which area of the UK you live in.
Over the past 50 years, much research has been carried out into the
health benefits of fluoride. Fluoride’s main benefit is that it
strengthens tooth enamel (the hard outer surface of the tooth), which
provides protection against tooth decay.
Fluoride is found in most of the modern toothpastes available in the shops and is even in some of the drinking water around the country.
Who Recommends Fluoride?
Fluoride applications have been recommended by the department of health for adults and children. The number of times per year that you receive fluoride applications will depend on certain risk factors that categorise your susceptibility to getting decay.
Is it safe?
Fluoride applications are safe, generally very well accepted and a have a nice fruity flavour. We even offer caramel flavour for the sweet toothed children and a few adults too.
We can also prescribe higher concentrations fluoride toothpastes for patients that at are particularly high risk of developing decay or who present with many cavities.
